Many thanks to Jason King, our veteran trailer editor,

Our dear friend, Oscar-nominated filmmaker Fiona Otway, is rocking the film world with her latest doc project, Hell and Back Again… Somehow in the midst of their phenomenal festival run and recent distribution deal, she still found time to include a post about our SIFF premiere. Her generosity cleary knows no bounds…
From Fiona’s blog: After years of hard work, courageous introspection, and potent creative collaborations, Seattle filmmaker Eli Kimaro will be sharing her debut feature documentary with the world. A LOT LIKE YOU screens at the Seattle International Film Festival on May 24th and June 12th. Don’t miss it!
Not only a remarkably personal record of the filmmaker’s own ethnic awakening, but also a compelling study on the roles that race and sex play in forming our cultural identities.
On Thursday, May 5, SIFF announces the full festival lineup. This is also the day that they’ll launch their new website with the online festival program. And it’s the day that festival tickets go on sale…
But word’s getting out about some of the selected films for this year’s festival. Here’s an announcement from SIFF’s website highlighting the 35 festival films by local NW filmmakers…
🙂 happy to be in such good company…
the ALLY workshop’s been busy…designing a new look (thanks will hyde!) to go with our new tagline (thanks elaine summers!).

Because most of our interviews were not in English, we had to translate and transcribe all our interviews before we left Tanzania. For 2 full years, this film existed only on paper, as we pieced our story together…
I’m so glad my mother thought to snap a photo of this madness when she came to visit in 2005. Those flipcharts covered every wall and door in my office…
It’s now official! I feel we did right by Pete by offering him a Producer credit on our film. It wasn’t so much a promotion as it was finding a title that did justice to what he so generously brings to the project.
Future posts will tell the tale of our collaboration. But for now, suffice it to say that we’re ever so grateful to Pete, and know that this film is as good as it is in large part because of his deep personal investment and commitment to this story.

A Lot Like You is about how I translate the unexpected beauty and brutality of my father’s culture on Mt Kilimanjaro into my own personal legacy.
It raises questions about what we inherit, and what we pass down, and reveals how bearing witness can break silences that have lasted lifetimes.
(50 words…coming soon to a festival program near you!)
sometimes when writing got too intense, i would shift gears and play around with images. the results would inevitably open up new and unexpected paths for me to explore…places i couldn’t reach through words alone.
from this collage, i realized i wanted our poster design to combine images with words to reflect the idea that this film was born on the page…..
